About Us
Mission Statement:
It is our goal that SLINGSHOT establish itself as a community forum through which St. Louis students can submit their literary and artistic work for publication in an open forum.
Through whatever faculty we possess as a globally aware group of young artistic individuals, we seek to contribute however we can to make the world a better place, both globally and locally.
A Map to Our Blog:
On the home page is where you can find all of the submissions which will be categorized according to the genre they fit and with the submitters name, if they choose. The pages off to the right will be informatory and review pages which will deal with content pertinent to their Category. For instance, the Global Awareness page will have blurbs about current events and their affect on us and a link to the original news site, perhaps photographs and the reviewers name.
SLINGSHOT began with the intention of becoming a Non-For-Profit Literary Magazine providing an outlet for literary and artsy teens in the St. Louis area. However it was the hurricane in Myanmar last year, which killed 100,000 people that both catalyzed and transformed our basic idea.
We came together as a group of concerned teens interested in the world and decided that we would begin to do whatever it was we could do to help the world now, today, instead of waiting another 10 years. The goal of this Webblog/zine is to provide a free forum for interested and concerned teens to voice their opinions to a community environment and provoke thought and inspiration in our peers.
We welcome any literary (short stories, poetry, novellas, etc), artistic (photography, paintings, musical etc), and current event write ups freely through submissions to slingshot.submissions@gmail.com. Thank you and we hope to hear from you soon!
“Mens sana in corpore sano” -Sound mind in a sound body
Our mission is to promote health of mind in both a physical and mental state. Locally, we advocate honest expression in literature, art, and music. Globally, we advocate the peace of a healthy body and a healthy earth.
As identified in our mission statement, Slingshot is a conglomeration of passionate high school students in the St. Louis area aspiring to spread goodness and affect change with as much power as we can muster. Our bake sale in November was our first philanthropic act and we certainly came together demonstrating our passion to begin to make the world better. Through the adversity of bad weather and a stunted economy, we braved the day spreading the name Doctors Without Borders shamelessly, promoting their cause for the betterment of the world!
This Slingshot website/blog was created for these students to outpour their literary and artistic works so that not only can we come together and try and help the world with physical actions and spreading knowledge, but so we can also create an environment to share and inspire one another to grow in both artistic and literary ways.
